On Aug. 20, the city of Cortez decided it was too embarrassed by us veterans to allow next year’s Veterans Day parade down Main Street. Instead we will be relegated to a small side road. Keeping us out of sight of the visiting tourists and those rich folk with delicate sensibilities who find patriotism and sacrifice too tedious and verbose to be allowed on their Main Street. As a retired Marine I can’t help but see this as nothing more than a slap on the face to all the service men and women who have put their lives on the line to protect this great nation of ours!
