Sex offender gets jail in probation case

David Buck, 38, of Cortez, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after admitting that he violated his probation. Initially charged with failing to register as a convicted sex offender in 2009, Buck’s probation had been extended by the court three times. The most recent revocation charges included failure to complete sex offender treatment and maintain employment.

Hearing delayed again for forgery suspect

In custody in La Plata County, Jory Miller, 35, of Bayfield, had a plea hearing continued until Sept. 24. Continued on multiple occasions, the case involves forgery and theft of at at-risk victim charges stemming from 2013, when initial bond was set at $25,000. Bond has since fluctuated to a low of $3,000 in 2014. Current bond is set at $12,000.

Plea in theft case leads to prison term

After pleading guilty to theft, Monalisa Jimenez, also known as Mona Tso, 43, of Dolores, was sentenced to two years in prison with credit for time served followed by two years of parole stemming from a May arrest. She was also ordered to pay $120 in restitution. Trespass and burglary charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Theft charges dismissed against teen

Out of custody, Matthew Knittle, 19, of Cortez, had motor vehicle theft, trespass and criminal mischief charges dismissed without prejudice. He was arrested in April. Citing a diversion was neither appropriate nor legal, the court rejected a prosecution request for Knittle to pay $2,500 in restitution.

Menacing case leads to probation

Out of custody, Clayton Robinett, 26, of Dove Creek, was sentenced to 24 months of probation after pleaded guilty to menacing and assault charges. He was initially charged menacing, assault and child abuse in connection to an incident that occurred in January. He was also ordered to a mental health evaluation and treatment and prohibited from using alcohol or drugs. Officials said he had completed a substance abuse program.

Revocation hearing continued

Dalen Oran, 21, of Dove Creek, had a revocation hearing continued until Sept. 24, to allow him to complete probation terms. Oran initially pleaded guilty to criminal mischief in 2012 and was sentenced to 12 months of probation, including drug and alcohol treatment and random testing. He was also ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution and write an essay on the effects of substance abuse.

Plea deals offered for drug suspects

In custody on a $2,000 bond, Robert Hanson, 48, of Cortez, is considering a plea deal that could include a cap of 18 months in jail concurrent with a parole violation. Hanson was arrested for drug possession and drug use charges on July 9. A plea hearing was set for Sept. 8.

In custody on a $1,000 bond, Genevieve Benners, 25, of Cortez, pleaded guilty to drug possession and trespass charges stemming from separate incidents that occurred during a two-day span in May. The plea deal includes a cap of 14 days in jail. Benners was released on a personal recognizance bond. Sentencing was set for Oct. 1.

Theft case continued for local woman

In custody on no bond after violating court orders, Christina Hurst, 28, of Cortez, had an arraignment hearing continued until Sept. 21. She was arrested in May and charged with motor vehicle theft and two additional counts of theft. Officials said the bond violation occurred after Hurst was arrested for shoplifting while on the job. A defense request to reinstate the original $1,500 bond was granted.

Bench warrant issued for DUI convict

After failing to appear for a revocation hearing, a bench warrant was issued for Alexandra Silas, 35, of Towaoc. She initially pleaded guilty to DUI in 2014, and was sentenced to 12 months in jail with credit for time served and three years of probation, which including 80 hours of community service, outpatient therapy and in-patient treatment.

Revocation leads to jail sentence

In custody, Clint Laner, 25, of Towaoc, pleaded guilty to assault as part of plea deal during revocation proceedings. He was sentenced to 24 months in jail. Laner initially pleaded guilty to DUI in 2013, which resulted in 60 days in jail, some $28,000 in restitution and three years of probation.

DUI conviction leads to jail for local man

After pleading guilty to DUI, Shrell Begay, 29, of Cortez, was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for time served followed by two years of probation stemming from 2014 arrest. She was also ordered to seek outpatient treatment and submit to random alcohol testing.
