Discussions about the mill levy are taking place every Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the back room of the Ponderosa. Here are some details on the renewal.
The current monthly support is coming from property taxes. Homes with a taxable value of $100,000 pay $4.68 per month. Those residing in a Dolores home with an average value of $189,843 pay $8.79 per month. Those with commercial property valued at $100,000 pay $17.07 per month.
Distribution of the funding is split between Dolores schools staff salaries ($150,000), classroom supplies ($89,000), media and the library ($21,000), maintenance ($90,000), and technology ($40,000).
The current Mill Levy was approved in 2008 and expires in 2016. Voting yes to renew it would continue the funding, which makes up 7% of the school's operating budget, generating $390,000 per year.
