Meet the elementary teachers

Taylor Farquharson: From Virginia, grew up in North Carolina. She has a bachelor's degree in English with education concentration from Virginia Tech, and is a third-grade teaching assistant. She fell in love with Dolores while on a camping trip.

Josie Snow: Is a Pagosa Springs native. She has a bachelor's degree from Fort Lewis with concentration in elementary education, and will teach fifth grade. She was a student teacher in Ireland, and taught elementary in Silverton.

Angie Lowe: Is a 15-year local resident with 10 years of teaching experience. Lowe received a degree in art education from Indiana University, a teaching certificate from Fort Lewis College, and a master's degree from Western Governors University. She is married to Mark, and has three children - twin girls age 8, and a son, age 6.

Brooke Rabinovitch: From Denver and holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and mathematics from Western Washington University. When not teaching fourth grade, she loves hiking, reading, and spending time with her new husband.

Amanda Hill: Is from Cortez, and has a bachelor's degree in education from Fort Lewis College, and a master's in teacher leadership. When not teaching first grade, she loves to camp and hike with her husband, Levi Hill and their two children ages 5 and 2.

Helen Reynolds: She was born in England, and grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She has degrees from the universities of Delaware, and Colorado. She has 25 years of experience, and is pursuing a master's in special education. She will teach special ed for fourth and sixth grades. She loves nature photography and bird watching.

Dawn Asbjorn: Is from New Jersey and has a bachelor's degree from New York University and a master's from Dowling College. She has taught middle schol math for 11 years and will be teaching the fifth grade. She loves to ride horses, read and camp.

Alison Bjerke: Is from Yucca Valley, Calif., and recently moved here from Arizona. She has a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Idaho, and will be teaching fifth grade. Alison loves to pay the trumpet, and has two "kids" - Lola the dog and Archie the cat.

Jay Loschert: Hails from Dayton, Ohio, and has lived in Dolores the past 15 years. He has a bachelor's degree from Miami University, Oxford Ohio, and has seven years of teaching experience including on the Navajo Reservation. Jay loves river running, mountaineering, and spending time with his kids, ages 3 and 16.
