The Mancos girls and boys alternated wins and losses in games last weekend.

In an away contest with Ridgway on Friday, the Lady Blue Jays got a season-high 18 points from sophomore Emily Cole and 13 points from senior Brittney Peacock, but fell to the Demons 58-34.

However, the boys followed with a dominating 63-28 win.

Freshman Caden Showalter led the Jays with 24 points, and he also pulled down 11 rebounds. And junior Caleb Yoder did a bit of everything, finishing with 17 points, eight assists and eight boards.

The roles were reversed on Saturday at home against Telluride.

The Lady Jays opened the afternoon with a thrilling 30-28 win after Peacock knocked down a last-second 3-pointer to put Mancos on top. She finished with a team-high 16 points and Emily Cole added 10.

But then the boys dropped their game against the visiting Miners 89-58.

Yoder led the Jays with 21 points and Showalter added 17. But Telluride junior Reed Schacht shot an incredible 9 for 10 from 3-point range and the Miners went 14 of 19 from deep as a team in the runaway win.

Mancos’ games on Tuesday versus Ignacio were canceled and rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31. But the Lady Jays (2-7, 1-4 San Juan Basin League) and Jays (4-7, 2-3 SJBL) have two contests prior to that.

They host Norwood on Friday, and then Ouray on Saturday.
