Plea deal entered in robbery at knifepoint
A New Mexico man pleaded guilty to menacing last week after he was charged with robbing a teen at knifepoint.
Jorge Dominguez, 34, who was aided by an interpreter in court, also faces pending drug charges in county court.
Court records reveal Dominguez was arrested after a traffic stop on July 4 for possessing and using meth. While out of jail on a $500 bond, he was arrested after robbing the 14-year-old for $260 on Aug. 10.
Police say Dominguez threatened to kill the teen and kicked him before throwing a cinder block through his windshield.
18-year-old gets 4 years in stabbing
An 18-year-old was sentenced to four years in a jail for youths after he stabbed a man over two $200 stereo speakers.
Angelo Gray of Cortez was sentenced to 4 years in the Youthful Offender System with credit for 258 days served. The court rejected a request to furlough the sentence so Gray could attend his grandfather’s funeral.
Gray also faces 12 months of probation. If he fails to complete that, he faces 8 years in prison.
Gray had been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and three counts of third-degree assault after allegedly stabbing a 21-year-old man in the chest and stomach with a knife at a Chestnut Street residence on Sept. 16.
Man gets 90 days in Calkins-area rape
A man charged in connection to rape received a “generous plea agreement” and 90 days in jail.
In custody for 302 days, Zamir Young, 23, was granted a deferred judgment and sentenced to an additional 90 days in jail last week. Young also will be placed on 5 years of probation and be required to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors said they offered the plea deal because the victim refused to testify. The judge said the “generous” agreement was “troubling.”
Young pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault after he was arrested for raping a woman in a field next to the Calkins Building on Aug. 8. The victim told police she was shoved to the ground, choked, and raped after drinking with Young at a local bar.
Warrant issued after man misses hearing
A no-bond bench warrant was issued for a habitual offender after he failed to appear at a hearing last week.
Clint Laner, 25, of Towaoc, allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old man in the leg in February. Charged as a habitual criminal, Laner faces charges including assault and tampering with evidence.
Laner previously was convicted for menacing and vehicular-eluding charges, according to court records.
Man waives right in off-reservation arrest
The court has found that a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer had the right as a citizen to make a lawful off-reservation arrest for a crime on tribal land.
In custody, Adrian Price, 40, waived his right to file a suppression motion after pleading guilty to an aggravated driving offense and DUI. He was sentenced to a year in prison and a year of parole. He was given credit for 87 days served and ordered to complete 60 hours of community service.
A misdemeanor warrant from Towaoc is pending.
Price was arrested in March after he was pulled over on U.S. 491 in Montezuma County for weaving while on Ute Mountain Ute territory. Price reportedly admitted to drinking and refused alcohol testing.
Plea deal rejected
The court rejected a plea deal last week after the defendant was arrested again for violating terms of pretrial servies.
In custody, Daniel Holley, 28, of Cortez reportedly suffered a black eye and bloody nose after he pulled a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun on a Mancos man in August. The court rejected Holley’s plea to menacing, saying that he failed to comply with court orders.
Holley’s new bond was set at $10,000. The case was continued till July 7.
