Eli Tomac, of Cortez, dominated the 450 class in the second round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship on Saturday, May 23, winning the first moto with 37 seconds to spare over Justin Barcia and the second by 23 seconds at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif.
Tomac is two-for-two to start the series. Last Saturday, the Cortez native won The Hangtown Classic in Sacramento.
The GEICO Honda Team rider took the lead in moto one after passing Phil Nicoletti and Barcia, of AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha.
Barcia took second place; and Nicoletti third -- his best finish.
In the second moto, started and finished in front ahead of Dungey. Roczen finished third; Barcia, fourth.
“I’m really comfortable right now,” said Tomac, according to Cycle News. “I’ve never been in this position before this early in the season where I feel like I’m one with the bike. The motorcycle is just really easy to ride right now. I’ve improved my starts a whole lot and that’s been huge for me.”
Tomac has a 19-point lead in the run for the series championship, followed by Dungey.
