May 16 proclaimed Betty Mauler Day

Betty Mauler sat quietly Wednesday, May 13, in the audience of the Mancos Town Board meeting.

Little did she know that soon the mayor of Mancos would proclaim her birthday, May 16, 2015, Betty Mauler Day.

Mauler beamed as she held the proclamation Wednesday.

Mauler was born in 1920 and is 95 years old.

She was a longtime resident of the Mancos Valley and a 1939 graduate of Mancos High School.

She has three daughters: Carolyn, Dorothy and Louise.

She was married to George Mauler and they farmed east of Mancos for 28 years.

After the passing of her husband in 1967, Mauler worked as a waitress and at a local grocery store to help raise her daughters.

Mauler as been a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Mancos for 75 years.

"She is a mainstay in the church congregation, offering her homemade baked cookies and sweet breads for the parishioners to enjoy after Sunday Mass," the proclamation states.

"In honor of the lifetime of contribution by Mrs. Betty Mauler to her family and the Mancos community, I hearby proclaim May 16, 2015 as Betty Mauler Day," Mayor Rachael Simbeck said.
