Where does it say no guns for felons?

This is in response to the front page story (Journal, April 28) headlined “9-12 quizzes legal officials.”

In this story District Attorney Will Furse and Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane say they will not enforce a law that is unconstitutional, I don’t believe this is true.

Everyone reading this must understand right now that I am not trying to say felons should own guns. I am saying that I was in the United States Army for six years. I defended everyone’s Second Amendment rights, but because of felonies I committed over 30 years ago, if I buy a gun I will be sent to prison.

My crimes were not violent and did not involve guns, the worst felony I was ever convicted of was selling two kilos of weed to an undercover narcs.

But I am sure that if I bought a gun today, one of Roy Lane’s men would arrest me I would be booked in the local jail, and the district attorney would prosecute me, and I would receive a prison term of 48 months and a fine of $50,000.

The amendment says it is the right of every U.S. citizen to keep and bear arms without government infringement. Maybe there is somewhere in the Constitution that says felons can’t own guns maybe the chief or the D.A. can tell me where that is.

The county clerk says you can buy your Second Amendment rights for $500 if you are a felon. For money you can have your record sealed and then you can pass a background check, a local gun dealer told me even if you pass a background check you can still be charged as a felon in possession of a fire arm.

It is hard to tell who is telling the truth and who is lying but I am pretty sure my local government is not here to help me. I would appreciate a response from anyone who really knows the U.S. Constitution.
