Man walks away from attempted carjacking

A 25-year-old man has been charged in a reported carjacking incident that occurred near the Cortez Public Library.

Jeremiah Jim, 25, address unknown, was arrested by Cortez police officers and charged with attempted aggravated robbery, attempted motor vehicle theft and third-degree assault stemming from an incident that occurred on May 12.

While on the 200 block of Park Street, the alleged victim told police that the suspect repeatedly pounded on the window and yelled for him to exit. After exiting the vehicle, the suspect reportedly grabbed the alleged victim, and a struggle ensued.

Following the struggle, the alleged victim said he never relinquished the keys of the vehicle, and he walked to the library to get help.

Jim, who also had two warrants for his arrest in La Plata County, reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .184 at the time of his arrest.
