Thursday, April 23

2:31 p.m. Warrants were issued for two sisters from Shiprock after an incident occurred at the 400 block of W. 7th Street. The sisters allegedly entered a home in that location and fought the grandmother of their brother’s child and the mother of their brother’s child, who is 8 months old. There was allegedly a knife involved in the assault and one of the sisters broke a cell phone and a home phone so they could not call for help.

6:25 p.m. An officer was patrolling near the 10 block of E. 3rd Street when he observed a red van with Texas license plates run a stop sign. Once the officer pulled the van over, dispatch advised the van was reported stolen out of Texas. The driver was arrested after first saying the van was stolen and then saying it wasn’t and then saying “I’ not going to lie, I stole the van.”

Friday, April 24

2:09 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of East Main Street for a report of a male lying on the ground with his pants down. The officer that arrived, woke up the man and pulled his pants up and gave him a courtesy ride to the Cortez City Park so he could sleep off the effects of alcohol. About an hour later, officers were called out again for a man sleeping on a bench in front of the Library with his pants down. This time, the man was taken to jail, but first had to be cleared by medical staff at Southwest Memorial Hospital because of his high blood-alcohol content.

Monday, April 27

11:25 a.m. A man reported that his roommate’s vehicle was egged near the 1300 block of Mesa Verde Street.

Tuesday, April 28

6:24 p.m. Officers responded to a restaurant in the 30 block of West Main Street for a report of a suspect detained behind the restaurant in the alley. The owner reported that the man was wandering around behind the restaurant, muttering to himself. He was mumbling all sorts of things about “smoking a bowl”, getting a job and going to Utah. At one point, the man entered the restaurant and started to knock things over. When officers arrived, the man had a piece of paper in his hands, a job application. When an officer asked to see the application, the man tried to stab the officer with the pen. The man was then arrested by the officers and issued a summons for interfering with an officer. While en-route to jail, the man continued to mumble and kept asking the officer to take him to Walmart.
