Once considered a fugitive, a 25-year-old convicted sex offender will now serve three years on a drug-distribution charge.
In custody, Cameron Wilson of Mancos received a three-year sentence to a Mesa County rehabilitative program on Tuesday, April 7. District Court Judge Todd Plewe also ordered Wilson to sex offender, mental health and substance abuse treatment. He was credited with 134 days served.
According to court records, Wilson pleaded guilty to a drug distribution charge in connection to a joint drug investigation conducted by the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office and the Cortez Police Department.
As a result of that investigation, dubbed Operation Under the Radar, Wilson was charged after he reportedly sold 2.1 grams of methamphetamines for $200 to a confidential informant in November 2013. Four others were also arrested as a result of the joint operation.
Despite probation requests from both the defendant’s mother and public defender, Plewe said the sentence was appropriate, considering Wilson’s prior felony convictions. Plewe added the defendant also had a history of not following court instructions.
In February 2014, authorities from the Colorado Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force found Wilson hiding inside the attic of a Mancos apartment after failing to register as a sex offender stemming from a 2010 incident. In that felony case, Wilson was convicted of luring of a child via the Internet.
