Good news spreads quickly in Dolores, and when Teddy Bear Preschool learned it received an accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, everyone was quick to offer a word of congratulations.

The distinction puts Teddy Bear, 1550 Hillside Ave., in Dolores, as one of the top 3 percent of preschools in the nation.

The school is currently enrolling students. Stop by to get an application, or call the school at 882-7277.

Speaking of enrollment, the Dolores School District held kindergarten registration on Wednesday. As many as 42 students are moving up from the preschool into kindergarten, it will be interesting to see how many more kindergartners the district will see next year.

Don't miss prom

This year, the Dolores gymnasium will be transformed into Paris as the theme for the 2015 prom is "Passport to Paris." This year's prom is Saturday, April 11. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the Grand March is at 8 p.m. The public is invited to Grand March. This is where we get to see the latest fashions, check out the beautiful decorations, take lots of pictures and learn who will be prom king and queen. Soon after the Grand March, all nonstudents are quickly kicked out so the fun can begin. This year, students should have to take a breath test to detect for alcohol. Those who test positive won't be admitted to the dance, according to action taking by the Dolores School Board of Education last month. In advance, tickets cost $25 for singles and $40 for couples. The cost goes up by $10 at the door.

Word has it that the Cortez prom is the same night, so don't be surprised if you see lots of tuxedos, sequins and limousines on Saturday.

Mill levy discussion

The Dolores School district invites the public to a meeting April 21 at 6 p.m. at the Dolores Secondary Schools Library, 1301 Central Ave.

As the district approaches the sunset of a mill levy override, passed years back, the district wants to thank the community and share what they have accomplished over the years with those funds.

Superintendent Scott Cooper is hoping to hear from the community about thoughts and ideas on how to best use funds in the future to support students. Snacks and beverages will be provided. For more information, call 882-7255.
