Even in windy conditions, Kiselya Plewe has proven that she is nearly impossible to beat.

The Montezuma-Cortez High School’s latest victory came at the Black Canyon Golf Course in Montrose on March 23 when she fired a 18-hole score of 75 and took top honors for the third time this season.

Plewe has now won all three of the tournaments in which she has played this season and according to Dolores High School golf coach Jeff Carr, there is no reason to believe that the team’s top golfer will lose anytime soon.

“I think she’s driving the ball very well right now,” said Carr. “She hits so long and Montrose is a pretty short course. She was hitting wedges and greens into everything.”

Thanks in part to Plewe’s performance, the Dolores team placed fourth out of six teams in the tournament field.

M-CHS junior Keyana Matteson fired a season-best round of 105 and placed 10th in the tournament. The top-10 finish was the first of Matteson’s career.

“(Keyana) is swinging really well right now,” said Carr. “I think she’s beginning to trust her game more. At times, she questions herself, but she has a really solid game.”

Dolores High School junior Selah Kabakoro and Dolores High School sophomore Harlie Valdez also attended the tournament and fired scores of 139 and 147 respectively.

“Sella has been sick for a couple of weeks,” said Carr. “The fact that she was able to grit it out physically, as well as mentally, was impressive.”

The Dolores team’s next tournament will take place on April 6 in Kirtland, N.M.
