For the second consecutive weekend, the Montezuma-Cortez High School girls soccer team was unable to score a goal and unable to notch a win.

Playing on the road against Fruita Monument on March 20, M-CHS fell behind 2-0 in the first half in route to a 6-0 loss.

Contributing to the Lady Panthers were two yellow cards assessed to sophomore Rylee Lindsley, which resulted in her ejection. M-CHS assistant coach Gina Sturdevant said that she did not believe that Lindsley’s ejection was warranted.

Due to Lindsley’s ejection, the Lady Panthers played with just 10 players for the remainder of the weekend and lost a road matchup against Montrose on March 21, 4-0.

“Our players are starting to hold their positions better and they’re in really good shape, but commitment is a huge deal for us right now,” said Sturdevant. “We have three or four girls every weekend who have something else to do and its hurting us big time.”

With their record now at 1-4-0 on the season, the Lady Panthers will next play on the road against Pagosa Springs on March 24. M-CHS defeated Pagosa 8-0 earlier this season.
