Gardner should hide in shame, resign

Sen. Cory Gardner should hide his face in shame. The president of the United States of America holds the office referred to as leader of the free world and commander in chief of the U.S. military — this is the office that holds the launch codes to one of the largest nuclear arsenals, oversees the largest economy, and is often described as the most influential political position on earth.

For nearly 240 years this office has carried substantial weight overseas, negotiating peace, declaring war, and representing the American people and the interests of democracy and human rights around the globe. Gardner apparently doesn’t agree. Amateurishly, he tacked his name to a letter that has undermined it all, and I say he has no right to do so.

Is Gardner ignorant, careless, or simply a moral coward willing to cave to senior politicians, parsing over documents that may give his monied political allies an edge on the lifting of economic sanctions in Iran? This letter will be wafted about in the crowded streets of our enemies to mock and undermine the authority of the United States in world affairs, and democracy in general.

Gardner is a fool. He has done little in congress other than pander to his handlers and make the United States, and Colorado a laughing stock of the world.

I suggest he find one of his daddy’s tractors depicted in his campaign ad, run around back, and hide his face in shame as he writes his resignation. I served in the military during wartime, as did my sister, my father, my grandfathers, uncles and aunts. We would all face a court martial if we had undermined U.S. interests in such an imbecilic fashion.
