Friday, Jan. 23

3:35 p.m. A man who lives on Road X reported a portable cement mixer and propane generator had been stolen from his address. There are no leads in the case.

Thursday, Jan. 29

10:30 a.m. A deputy responded to the 30000 block of Road V.6 in response to a report of a dog bite. The reporting party, a deputy with the Montezuma County Sheriff Department, said that while conducting a poll in reference to a liquor license, he was bitten twice by a dog in that area. When the deputy approached the residence, four dogs approached him. The dogs seemed friendly at first, but one bit him on the left leg from behind and then again on the same leg. The deputy used department issue OC spray to deter the dog and returned to his vehicle and called in another deputy. The other deputy issued a summons to the dogs’ owner for unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog.

4:23 p.m. Deputies arrested a woman in the 36000 block of Highway 160 because the woman had an active warrant.

Friday, Jan. 30

11:00 a.m. Sheriff Steve Nowlin and a deputy responded to the 13000 block of Road 26 for a water complaint. Neighbors were having a dispute over irrigation water and a water line had been cut, preventing the reporting party from being able to access their irrigation water. Nowlin talked to the neighbors and was told that the line would be fixed before water started to flow in the spring.

12:06 p.m. Deputies were requested to respond to the Maverick, 10233 N. U.S. 491 for a report of an accident in the parking lot. When deputies arrived and asked those involved to provide their proof of insurance and licenses, it was determined that one of the drivers had a warrant for her arrest for a traffic offense and failure to appear in court. The woman was arrested and taken to jail and was issued a summons for driving under suspension.

9:01 p.m. A man was arrested in the 18000 block of Colorado 145 for alleged third degree assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

11:55 p.m. A deputy driving near the 6000 block of County Road 25 was blinded by the bright headlights of an oncoming vehicle. The deputy turned around and pulled the vehicle over and explained that he was supposed to dim his lights 500 feet prior to another vehicle. The man apologized, but when the deputy checked the man’s driving status it was determined his driving privileges were revoked. The man was issued summons for driving with motor vehicle license under restraint and failure to dim lights. The vehicle was left at the scene and released to a valid driver.

Tuesday, Feb. 3

5:13 p.m. Deputies responded to the area of 11th and Central Avenues in Dolores for the report of a disturbance. A man holding a can of Fosters Beer in his right hand was yelling at people in the road and threatening to assault them. The man was arrested and issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Wednesday, Feb. 4

2:47 p.m. A deputy responded to the area of Road 22.9 for a report of a woman who said there were dogs running at large on her property and she shot one of them. The deputy asked the woman why she shot the dog and she said they were not being aggressive, they were just barking at each other. The woman was issued a summons for cruelty to animals. The owner of the dog she shot and killed could not be located.

Saturday, Feb. 7

5:06 p.m. A man was arrested for a violation of a protection order when it was determined he called the protected party 80 times and texted her 41 times within an eight-hour span.

Sunday, Feb. 8

6:03 p.m. Dispatch reported a single vehicle roll over with unknown injuries in the 5000 block of County Road G, when deputies arrived, they discovered one of the occupants of the vehicle had a warrant, and she was arrested without incident.

Monday, Feb. 9

11 a.m. The sheriff’s department is investigating an identity theft case after a couple reported that when they went to file their joint federal tax return electronically, they were called by the IRS that someone had already filed using their name and social security number. There are no leads in this case.

Tuesday, Feb. 10

3:43 p.m. Deputies responded to the 23000 block of Road N for a report of dogs injuring cattle. The cattle had bites on their ears and the owner believed it was a possible dog attack.

Thursday, Feb. 12

2:20 a.m. A man was pulled over after a deputy observed him pull into the Montezuma County Fairgrounds without signaling and then proceeded to spin donuts in the parking lot. Once the man was pulled over, he did not show the deputy his hands, so the deputy pulled his weapon, ordered the man to show his hands and stay in the car. When the man complied and was asked for his license, he stated, “Sir, my driver’s license has been suspended because I stole a car.” The man was issued a summons for driving a motor vehicle when license under restraint and given a courtesy ride, during the ride the man said, “Yeah, I did get three donuts in, which was fun.”
