Thursday, Jan. 29

11:57 a.m. A man was issued a summons for disturbing the peace after he urinated on a tree near the duck pond near the 500 block of North Park Street.

Friday, JAN. 30

2:11 a.m. Officers responded to the 400 block of Cedar Street for a noise complaint. When officers arrived it was determined that one of the men was violating a protection order. He was placed in handcuffs, and the man started yelling obscenities at an officer and told him he did not like the officer’s hair cut and then accused the officer of stealing money from him. The officer said he had never had contact with that person before.

Saturday, Jan. 31

9:58 p.m. Officers responded to the area of N. Linden and W. Coronado for a report of a suspicious person taking an object out of a pickup. Near the 10 block of N. Linden, an officer observed a pedestrian, matching the reporting party’s description, carrying an object in his left hand. The object appeared to be a piece of lumber. The man appeared unsteady on his feet and was told to put the lumber down by the officer. The man refused and took two steps toward the officer. The officer stated in a report that he was afraid the man may used the lumber as a club. The man was asked to put the lumber down again and he refused to do so. The man then started to rap, “Where’s the man, where’s the man, I want to talk to a man!” The man eventually put down the stick, but picked it up again and started to walk off. The man then turned around and approached the officers with the lumber. Eventually, officers advised the man he was under arrest, but the man refused to comply and started kicking at the officers. After refusing to comply, the man was tased by an officer. He was eventually taken to jail and issued a summons for menacing, obstructing police officer, resisting arrest and intoxicated pedestrian.

Sunday, Feb. 1

9:59 a.m. Two people were arrested for possession of methamphetamine near the 300 block of West Main Street.

Monday, Feb. 2

3:53 p.m. An officer was called to the Cortez Middle School for a report of an assault on a member of the middle school staff. The parent who allegedly assaulted the staff member said she was upset that no one was helping her child with homework and that her child was getting detention for not doing his homework and nobody was giving him his homework in detention, so she pushed the staff member. When officers responded to the woman’s home to ask about the alleged assault, it was determined the woman had a warrant, and she was arrested for the Montezuma County Court warrant and issued a summons for disturbing the peace.

8:46 p.m. A man was arrested for disturbing the peace near the 400 block of S. Chestnut Street after loud music and yelling was reported.

Tuesday, Feb. 3

9:02 a.m. A medical marijuana shop in the 300 block of E. Main Street reported a burglary. When officers arrived, they found a door had been kicked in and “quite a bit” of marijuana missing. Surveillance video showed two males take marijuana out of the “bud room.” Nine glass jars containing marijuana were empty.

11:28 a.m. An officer responded to a retail store in the 2200 block of E. Main Street for a report of employee theft. The employee admitted that she took $245 from the register to buy pills. The employee was issued a municipal summons for theft.

8:49 p.m. A man was arrested in the Cortez Middle School parking lot after an officer observed him stumble on the sidewalk. The man was had an active mandatory protection order which prohibited him from possessing or consuming alcohol.

Wednesday, Feb. 4

11:20 a.m. An officer observed a group of people sitting at a picnic table in the area of Centennial Park with a marijuana pipe. The officer approached the group and told them that smoking marijuana in the park was illegal and issued the man who said owned the marijuana pipe a summons for unlawful public display or consumption of marijuana.

Thursday, Feb. 5

1:02 p.m. Officers were dispatched north of the duck pond in Centennial Park for the report of a fight. When officers responded, they were told a man and a woman had been fighting on the ground. The man had a bloody nose and when officer’s asked him about it he would only reply “What did you read a dictionary?” Officers could not determine who the aggressor in the fight was, so both parties were issued summons for disturbing the peace and asked to leave the park.
