Durangoans Molly Hummel and Steve Ilg took Queen of the Mountain and King of the Mountain titles, respectively, on Jan. 18 at the 42nd annual Chama Chile Ski Classic on Cumbres Pass north of Chama, N.M. John Gilbert, of Mancos, was second overall in 1:55:57.
Hummel was the top woman in the 12-kilometer ski and second woman in the 6K snowshoe to place first in the combined competition for Queen of the Mountain in 1 hour, 40 minutes, 7 seconds.
Ilg was second in the classic ski and seventh in the snowshoe to place first overall among men in 1:38:34.
In the Jan. 17 18K freestyle cross-country race, Caleb Thompson of Durango was first overall in 1:04:57. Hummel was second among the women in 1:07:58, and Deb Sussex of Durango was third in 1:10:11. Peter Mech of Durango finished the 6K snowshoe in 35:28, more than 6 minutes ahead of second place.
In the fat-bike events, Durangoans Richard Bagienski, 67, and Martha Iverson, 65, were first men and women, respectively.
