If the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys basketball team hopes to turn things around, it will need to do so quickly.

Opening another dismal weekend on the road against Fruita Monument on Jan. 30, the Panthers were defeated, 64-49.

Javen Gumber and Dylan Row each scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats, who improved to 4-13 on the season with the win.

After losing to Fruita, the Panthers traveled to Montrose on Jan. 31 and were blown out, 65-26.

Montrose led 22-4 after the first quarter and 40-10 at halftime.

M-CHS dropped to 5-10 on the season with the loss. The Panthers currently rank last in the Southwest League, with an 0-5 record.

Next up for the Panthers will be a road matchup against Grand Junction on Feb. 6, followed by a road matchup against Grand Junction Central on Feb. 7.
