Elementary students display their projects on Jan. 20. They shared information from a variety of subjects such as glowing mushrooms, history of volleyball, Native American dancing, and physics of roller coasters.

Fourteen individual and group projects were highlighted as students from Montezuma-Cortez elementary schools participated in a Gallery Night at Mesa Elementary on Jan. 20.

Families, teachers and administrators attended to support students from third through fifth grades, and M-CHS consumer sciences classes provided refreshments.

The Gallery Night showcased the knowledge students learned after completing a project. These projects were chosen by the students and supported by the school’s Gifted and Talented Liaison, classroom teachers, and parents. It was an opportunity for students to study a project of interest and broaden their scope of learning. Students shared information from a variety of subjects such as glowing mushrooms, history of volleyball, Native American dancing, and physics of roller coasters.

The Gifted and Talented program provides opportunities for students to strengthen their learning experience. The program is designed for students who are identified according to Colorado State guidelines for those students who show an exceptional aptitude in an intellectual ability, creative thinking, leadership, or the arts.

Events such as a Gallery Night allow students an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and for community members to support this learning.
