Youth Collaborative seeks a director
The School Community Youth Collaborative is seeking a director, beginning in March, who thinks outside the box, collaborates with nonprofits, and advocates for the organization.
SCYC creates pro-social opportunities for youths to build healthy relationships and engage in their communities through sustainable collaborations with youth and organizations in Montezuma and Dolores counties. SCYC is dedicated to helping youths in Montezuma and Dolores counties thrive by having a voice and an impact in their community now and when they become adults. SCYC is a program of Onward! A Legacy Foundation.

The Mission Team at the First United Methodist Church challenges football fans to help restock the pantry at Hope’s Kitchen.
Can you give a large #10 can of vegetables to Hope’s Kitchen for every touchdown in the Super Bowl Game?
Hope’s Kitchen serves meals every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon until 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at 515 North Park St. in Cortez.
Hope’s Kitchen serves about 118 meals a day on Monday, Wednesday,and Friday – 1,531 meals per month.
Canned or monetary donation can be delivered to the United Methodist Church on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Checks may be mailed to 515 North Park St., Cortez, CO 81321.
Community college offers EMT classes
Southwest Colorado Community College has added two classes for EMTs.
A refresher course is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays from Feb. 7 to March 14 at Southwest Colorado Community College’s East Campus in Durango.
The course meets the 24 to 36 hours of continuing-education requirements for Colorado or national recertification.
Also available is an EMT internship course composed of 96 hours working on an ambulance and participating with the ambulance’s crew.
The internship course is be held from Monday to May 16. Students can be placed with a crew at a variety of locations throughout Colorado.
Each class is limited to 12 students. Students in the internship course must have completed an EMT course but aren’t required to be certified.

Nurse-aide training program available
A seven-week Certified Nurse Aide Training Program runs Feb. 9 through March 20 at Southwest Colorado Community College’s West Campus, 33057 U.S. 160, Mancos. The class meets 8 to 11:45 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
The college also will hold another seven-week CNA training program at the college’s East Campus in Durango, March 31 to May 15. Students will meet from 8 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday to Friday.
Certified nurse aides are in high demand. Students will learn the skills they need to help hospital patients, long-term care residents and home health-care clients with daily activities.
Classes are limited to 10 students. Students must meet immunization requirements and pass a background check.
