Easton LaChappelle created this robotic arm for his science fair project, then got recognized by the website UPROXX and since has gone on to regional and national recognition.

Easton LaChappelle, the young Mancos man who has drawn attention for building a robotic arm, continues to get the buzz.

Last week, he was written about on a viral website, UPROXX, as part of a series on technology luminaries. The 19-year-old has gained not only regional attention for his developments, he also has been on national cable television, and, two years ago, shook hands with President Barack Obama.

The UPROXX article and video talks about LaChappelle’s work with 3-D printing. The headline is “Meet Easton LaChappelle, The 19-Year-Old Luminary Building A Cheaper, Better Prosthetic Limb.”

“He’s not just creating one thing, he’s giving everyone the ability to be their own engineer, to take what was once an involved, arcane process and make it one anyone can do,” says the story, written by Dan Seitz.
