We here in Montezuma County are very fortunate to have such wonderful friends and neighbors who look after each other. CASA of the Southwest (formerly CASA of the Four Corners), a local non-profit organization, wishes to recognize some local people who personify that neighborly spirit. Two dedicated volunteers travel to Walmart each week to collect donations of food which they then box up and distribute to needy families and individuals in Cortez and Mancos. We wish to send our sincere and heartfelt thanks to these ladies and to all who have made the Walmart food distribution program possible.

CASA of the Southwest (Court Appointed Special Advocates-CASA) is the regional affiliate working in this area to strengthen and stabilize families and provide voices for children experiencing the devastating effects of abuse and neglect.

CASA’s mission is to help break the cycle of child abuse and neglect, and to advocate for safe, permanent, nurturing homes for children, utilizing highly trained and dedicated volunteers. We invite anyone who may be interested in becoming a CASA volunteer or who would simply like to learn more about us to contact Barbara Casey at info@casa4corners.org, or call 970-564-0301. The CASA office is located at 10 W. Main St., Ste. 106, in Cortez.

A new volunteer training opportunity is coming in February, 2015.
