Rep. Scott Tipton has been tapped as one of three vice-chairmen to the House of Representative’s Western Caucus.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, the day after the 114th Congress was sworn into office. Congressman Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming will serve as caucus chair. The Western Caucus acts as the congressional voice in Washington, D.C.

“The Western United States is in my estimation the most beautiful place in the world, and when government stays out of the way, one of the most prosperous too,” Tipton said in a press statement. “The rolling hills, fertile plains, snow-capped peaks and all of abundant natural resources of the West not only make our country the most scenic, but the most economically strong in global history.”

Tipton indicated he would work to balance the beauty of the West with responsible development and use of the area’s natural resources, so all Americans could access public lands.

Steve Pearce of New Mexico, Rob Bishop of Utah, Mark Amodei of Nevada and Paul Gosar of Arizona were also selected to the Western Caucus.
