Panthers swim in Montrose

Competing at the Montrose High School Invitational, Dec. 19-20, the Montezuma-Cortez High School girls swim team placed sixth out of 10 teams.

Glenwood Springs High School finished first at the meet, Grand Junction High School finished second, and Montrose High School finished third. M-CHS finished ahead of Central, Fruita, Moffat County and Delta.

Leading the way for the Panthers was sophomore Bailey Duran, who finished fourth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:38.64), fifth in the 1000 freestyle (12:55.05), fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:22.78) and 5th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:55.64).

Also cracking the top-five for the Panthers was senior Madison VanBibber, who finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.64), fifth in the 50-yard butterfly (32.99) and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.36).

Freshman Caisey Duran finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:36.83), seventh in the 200-individual medley (2:39.51) and 8th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.25).

Junior Keyana Matteson finished sixth in the 50-yard backstroke (36.34).

Next up for the Panthers will be a meet in Durango on Jan. 9. against Durango and Central. M-CHS will then travel to the Albuquerque Academy Invitational in Albuquerque on Jan. 17.
