A volunteer led effort to feed locals on Christmas Day is still seeking help and donations.

Held at the Montezuma County Annex Building on Dec. 25 starting at 11 a.m., the dinner relies heavily on the assistance and generosity of volunteers, said Mayor Karen Sheek.

The county provides the use of the annex and kitchen annually, RE-1 provides their warehouse facilities for food delivery and storage, and local food vendors also donate support.

“We do get donations and discounts from local vendors and merchants, but financial donations are certainly welcome,” Sheek said.

Financial contributions can be made at the Cortez Cultural Center, Four Corners Community Bank, as well as Dolores State and Vectra bank locations.

“If someone wants to donate a food item, homemade pies, cookies, or candies that would be great... they can be brought along if they’re attending or dropped off,” Sheek added.

The first volunteers begin to work around 9 a.m. The cleanup crew, which is still in need of more volunteers, will be finished by 3 p.m., she noted.

The dinner is free of charge, and Sheek says that a dinner delivery service for the elderly or immobile can be coordinated via the Cortez Cultural Center by calling 565-1151.

The County Annex Building is located at 103 N. Chestnut in Cortez.
