Wednesday, Dec. 3

3:46 p.m. An officer responded to the Cortez Public Library for a report of a male passed out on the floor. When the officer arrived, the man was unresponsive and didn’t wake up when the officer tapped his shoulder. The male woke when the officer applied a sternum rub. The man was asked if he had fallen and he said no, but the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the man. A check through dispatch revealed the man had two confirmed warrants and was prohibited from consuming alcohol by the court. The man was arrested and transported to jail, where he had a difficult time sitting up and fell and hit his head. Because of the man’s high level of alcohol consumption and the bump on his head, he was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for medical clearance.

8:05 p.m. A woman was arrested in the 800 block of North Edith Street after police were called to the residence for a disturbance. After arriving police discovered that one of the women involved had an order barring her from consuming alcohol. The woman admitting to drinking, and she was arrested.

Thursday, Dec. 4

6:50 p.m. An officer responded to a shoplifting report from a local beauty supply store. According to store employees, a group of four people bought some items with a “Pro Card” and immediately wanted to return them. When asked for their information on the receipt, one of the people wrote “F You” on the paper. After the group left, the older male in the group went back into the store and stuffed a hair-styling iron in his shirt. The group gathered around a van, and when an employee followed them outside, someone said, “We need to leave, and we need to leave right now.” The employee was able to get a license plate number, and the officer planned to show her photos to see if she can point out suspects.

Friday, Dec. 5

2:12 p.m. An officer responded to a laundry business in the 1400 block of East Main Street for a report of people drinking alcohol in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they discovered the two males who were reportedly drinking also had warrants for their arrest. They were both arrested without incident.

10:13 p.m. Officers were called after a report of an intoxicated pedestrian in the road near East Main Street and Washington Street. Before officers were able to assist the male, he stumbled around the corner and into a planter, where he did a face plant. The drunken man had been warned to stay out of the road earlier that evening, and he was arrested and taken to the hospital for a medical clearance.

Sunday, Dec. 7

2:28 a.m. A man told police that he was sleeping on the couch at his home when someone broke his back window. The suspect ran before police arrived. The window was valued at $10.

2:44 a.m. A man was arrested after breaking the window of the Evangel Assembly of God Church, located in the 200 block of West Fifth Street.

Wednesday, Dec. 10

10:44 a.m. Police officers responded to the Cortez Apartments after dispatch got a call that said, “Get the cops here.” The call was then disconnected, and attempts to return the call were unsuccessful. When officers arrived, they found a woman crying and a man who said he had destroyed the house. The man in the house stated that he had gotten into an argument with the woman and destroyed the house. The man then asked the cops to take him to jail. After the man was arrested and issued a summons for domestic violence, criminal mischief and third-degree assault, he said, “This has not happened in 16 years and it’s worth it.”
