Giving thanks for our Sheriff’s Office

In October our home was broken into. We were out of town at the time, and our neighbors discovered that we had been burglarized.

It’s hard to describe how we felt. We walked into our home that is our sanctuary, and it had been totally ransacked, every drawer was opened and torn apart or rummaged through, every cupboard was open, the closets were torn apart with all the shelves emptied and everything lying on the floor. I have heard people say they felt so violated after something like this, and we now know exactly how they felt.

We have spent our entire lives in Montezuma County, and we just didn’t think something like this could happen.

As with everything bad that happens, there is always some good that rises from the situation. Our blessing in all of this was the performance of the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office. Three deputies and then two detectives arrived, Adam Eastman and Bryce Queen.

They were in our home for more than four hours, carefully looking for evidence. They were so compassionate and caring the whole time. By the time they left, they said they thought there was at least two if not three people involved in the crime.

The break-in occurred on a Sunday and by Friday, they made their arrests! Through their diligence and hard work they were able to solve our break-in and several other local burglaries. They arrested two juveniles. Detective Queen was in touch with us every day until the arrests were made, keeping us informed on all the progress that they were making. They did an outstanding job. We are sure there were many more officers involved. Thank you to each and everyone of them!

At this time of year when we are all reflecting on our blessings, I think we should all be thankful that we have such outstanding people in our Sheriff’s Office. We are. We also know that there are some in this county that are hurting worse than we have been. May God bless us all this holiday season.
