Remember the important work cops do

I think it’s time that we remember the work our law enforcement does, and stop seeing criminals and drug addicts as victims. I don’t think people realize what it is to put on your work uniform and head out the door to have people want to kill you; people stare you down and call you names; to always have to watch your back knowing that a person unrelated to what you are doing will come from your blind spot to kill you for no other reason than that you are a police officer.

Every day they work through the night and into the morning hours to be there when you need them, all the while knowing that there is someone who plots to steal them from their families, leaving a wife widowed and children motherless. Even when fear threatens them, they move forward with courage.

Our officers are here to protect us, our children our families, and all that we own. Yet when the police are called, some of you say they have no right to enter your home. When they see danger and take action to protect people, others call it excessive force. When their life is threatened, some of you even call that excessive force.

At the end of the day, their families deserve to have them come home. I am a proud wife of a police officer, and friend to many.
