Main Street in Cortez was lined with people Saturday night awaiting the 25th annual Parade of Lights, sponsored by the 4 Corners Board of Realtors.

And the parade didn’t disappoint the crowd.

It started off with a bang as Grand Marshal Kinder Morgan’s float lighted up the night, shooting flames up into the air.

Children squealed in delight, and parents pointed. Others worried it might be dangerous.

Cash prizes were given out in three different categories: commercial, nonprofit and other — such as schools, individuals and churches. First-place winners earned $250, second-place winners earned $150, and third-place winners earned $100.

The Commercial category

First: Auto Glass Wizard

Second: ATC and Stormy’s Gymnastics

Third: Ute Mountain Casino Hotel and Resort

Non-profit category

First: Montezuma School Transportation

Second: Pinion project

Third: Battle Rock Charter School

Others

First: Manaugh Elementary School

Second: Middle School Band

Third: Miniz and More

The theme this year was “Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree,” and all local businesses and organizations were encouraged to attend.

This year’s parade was likely a record-breaker, with 72 floats in the parade.
