Tamira Osborne, a 911 dispatcher, recently graduated from Association of Public Safety Communications Officials leadership program.

Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane has announced the recent graduation of 911 dispatcher Tamira Osborne from the Association of Public-Safety Leadership Program.

Osborne, of Dolores, completed a yearlong online course, and is now designated as a public-safety leader.

"Her accomplishment is a prestigious acknowledgement of excellence within the field of public safety telecommunicators," said Lori Johnson, Cortez dispatch director.

Osborne completed six self-study courses that included written examinations, projects, research papers, and a service project.

For her service project she has been working with the state training standards committee to communicate southwest Colorado needs. As part of her efforts, Osborne will work with the state to ensure the public receives a minimum standard of care no matter where their 911 call is routed.

"The Cortez-Montezuma Communications Center anticipates a variety of benefits from dispatcher Osborne thanks to her completion of the program," Johnson said.

Osborne has worked for the dispatcher department since 1999.
