M-CHS graduate deploys overseas

Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt. Calvin-Paul O. Stewart has deployed overseas to a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.

Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States.

U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific and Europe.

Stewart is the son of Philip A. Stewart of Lexington, Indiana, brother of Amy E. Lovell of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Thaddaeus L. Stewart of Cortez, and Jeremiah A. Stewart of Cortez.

He is a 2006 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, Cortez. He earned an bachelor’s degree in 2011 from Adams State University, Alamosa.

Trash crews will work through Thanksgiving

The City Refuse Crew will work the Thanksgiving holiday – Thursday and Friday – and will have normal trash pickup.

The Recycling Crew won’t work Thanksgiving Day, and will only pick up commercial on Friday, and empty the bins at the drop-off center. For questions, call 970-565-7320.

City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28, and will reopen on Monday, Dec. 1 at 8 a.m.

Rudolph Run registration nears

The Rudolph Run, which is part of the Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration in Mancos, is Friday, Dec. 5. Registration at 6 p.m., and the race is at 6:30 p.m.

This is a one-mile run, with lots of prizes involved.

The money raised is matched by Mullikin Physical Therapy, and will be split between the Mancos Student Council and the Mancos Giving Tree. Fees are $3 in advance at Mancos Town Hall, Mancos Schools or Mullikin Physical Therapy. Fees at race time will be $5.

Southwest Singers prepare for concert

The Southwest Singers are presenting their Christmas concert, Christmas Memories, on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday Dec. 13. Both concerts are at 7 p.m. and will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 515 N. Park in Cortez.

An informal reception follows each performance.
