Over the past four years at Montezuma-Cortez High School, senior Abby Chupp has enjoyed success on the court and in the classroom.

A middle blocker on the Panthers volleyball team, Chupp had 60 kills, 99 digs, 43 blocks and 25 aces. Thanks in part to Chupp’s play in the middle, the Panthers finished the season with a 13-11 record and advanced to Regionals.

“Without (Chupp), our whole defense would be messed up,” said M-CHS head coach Andi Pickens. “She’s our rock in the middle, and she brings so much to our team.”

“I feel like the season went really well,” said Chupp. I was proud of how we ended our year. The last four years were really great and I’m glad I played.”

Now preparing for the basketball season, Chupp said that she is excited to see how this year’s Panthers team fairs. Last season, Chupp started at forward for the Panthers and provided rebounding and scoring for the team.

“I’m just planning on playing really good defense,” said Chupp of her plans for this season. “I really like playing for (head coach John McHenry). “He’s very dedicated to our team and willing to work with us to improve.”

When not playing volleyball or basketball, Chupp enjoys hanging out with friends and taking classes at M-CHS. The senior said that she prefers math classes and listed pre-calculus as her favorite high school class thus far.

After graduation, Chupp plans to attend college and one-day work as a pharmacist. She is considering Colorado State University and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

“I haven’t picked a college yet, but I definitely plan on going,” said Chupp. “I’m excited.”
