Recall committee: Humiston-Scott should step aside

Mrs. Humiston-Scott is protesting the recall petitions that were signed by many residents of the Mancos School District and verified by the County Clerk. While it is her right to do so, by pursuing this venue she is showing her true colors.

Up until now, the recall has not and would not cost the School District anything until an actual election took place; however, by pursuing a protest the School District will be obligated to pay the cost of the protest. Mrs. Humiston-Scott has been adamant that she has done nothing wrong, despite the record of censures and arrest. Evidently she thinks she is only looking out for the best interests of the taxpayers and how their money is spent. Well, now she could be costing the taxpayer real dollars.

If she was truly convinced that she is in the right and is truly interested in fiscal responsibility, she should be willing to let the verified petitions alone and stand for an election and let the citizens of the district decide. If she is not willing to stand up or (as we think) she is in the wrong and afraid of what and election would decide, she should graciously resign her position and allow the School District to get on with the job of educating our kids without all the grandstanding, self-aggrandizing and now real costs that could occur. If she is as fiscally responsible as she proclaims, if she is really interested in what's good for kids and education, she should honorably resign and this recall will cost the District nothing. She would still have the opportunity to run again next November and let the electorate decide her merits without the civil discord and burden she is now inflicting on the taxpayer.
