The Montezuma County Democratic Party has opened its headquarters for the fall election at 100 E. Main St. in Cortez.
People can find information about candidates in fall races such as Gail Schwartz, Michael Bennet and Hillary Clinton. Also available is information about Colorado ballot measures such as Amendment 69, ColoradoCare.
The office’s regular hours will be 10-4 p.m., depending on volunteer support, party co-chair Ric Plese said. Yard signs, bumper stickers and informational handouts are available at the office.
Plese said he hopes to campaign hard for Schwartz, who is running against incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton, of Cortez, for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. One of the largest geographical districts in the nation, the district includes much of the Western Slope, as well as the San Luis Valley and portions of the Eastern Plains.
Plese said Tipton hasn’t done enough to help people in Montezuma County. He said Schwartz has an impressive work ethic and has worked with both Democrats and Republicans to pass bipartisan measures in her time as a state legislator.
“She’s a fighter,” Plese said.
Another priority for the fall election is educating people about Amendment 69, ColoradoCare. The ballot measure proposes a $25-billion single-payer health care system for Coloradans.
Plese said people should look at the facts and consider the news source in the next few months leading up to the election.
