Beware speeders of Mancos, you may soon be under surveillance.

The Mancos Town Board is expected to discuss the purchase of a speed trailer Wednesday, Nov. 12, during a regular Town Board Meeting that starts at 7 p.m.

Board members are expected to accept a reimbursement grant awarded by the Colorado Department of Transportation in the amount of $4,950 for the purchase of a speed radar trailer and authorise the expenditure of an additional $2,270 for the purchase of the trailer.

A speed trailer is a moveable trailer that is placed in speeding "hot spots" to alert motorists of their speed versus the posted speed limit.

"The trailer will be able to gather data, which can be used by town staff to analyze speeding around town," a board report stated.

It is also stated that Mancos will be able to share the trailer with other entities.

"We plan to use a radar trailer to inform motorists of their vehicular speed at locations where it is deployed. We also intend to utilize the data-gathering function of the trailer to analyze traffic counts, speeds, etc. to identify real (as opposed to citizen-perceived problem areas and assign and monitor those areas with officers to the best of our abilities," the board packet states.

Also on the agenda Wednesday, board members are expected to discuss traffic improvements and vehicle circulation at Boyle Park.

Board members are also expected to discuss the Millwood Junction liquor license renewal, real estate services, discussion of the Historic Preservation Code, citizen recognition awards, the code enforcement process and the possible cancellation of the Nov. 26 board meeting.
