Editor, on October 19th, a benefit was held for Ken Degener, a wonderful member of our community, who suffered a major heart attack in the spring. Even with insurance, his share of the bills for the flights, doctors, hospital stay, etc., have totaled into the thousands of dollars.
Ken has always been an active member of our community. He is very involved with the Four Corners Community Band, ski patrolling at Hesperus, the Community Concert Series, and much more. In addition, he has always been very generous with his friends, helping out with home repair jobs, house sitting, etc.
We would like to thank the following people for the help they gave in this successful event: The Cortez American Legion, The Four Corners Community Band, the band The Lindells, the band “The Moetones”, the staff of Manaugh Elementary School, the staff of The Piñion Project, and anyone else who contributed in any way to this worthwhile cause.
A bank account will be open for another week for anyone wishing to make a contribution. Donations can be made to the “Ken Degener Benefit” at the Dolores State Bank.
Again, to all of those who contributed and attended the benefit, thank you for showing your support for the kindness Ken Degener has shown to our community over the years.
