Get those ballots in

Ballots for the Nov. 4 local, state, and national elections were mailed to registered voters last week. They need to be returned to the county clerk by 7 p.m. on Nov. 4 to be counted. Postmarks don't count.

Contact the county clerk's office if you haven't received a ballot in the mail - for La Plata County call 382-6296; for Archuleta County call 264-8350.

Read and follow all the directions with the ballot. Each ballot must be returned in the envelope that came with it, not the envelope that came with the ballot for another member of the household.

Ballots can be mailed back; allow plenty of time for delivery. Or they can be inserted in 24-hour drop boxes at Bayfield Town Hall or the La Pata County Clerk's Office at 98 Everett St. south of the Centennial Shopping Center in Durango.

There are lots of other options and times for La Plata County voters to turn in ballots, including Saturdays:

Voter service and polling centers

. Bayfield Town Hall and the La Plata County Clerk's Office in Durango - Monday through Friday this week and next, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon; and election day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

. La Plata County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and election day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Ballot drop-off locations in addition to the 24 hour boxes:

. Ignacio Town Hall on Saturday, Nov. 1, 8 a.m. to noon; Monday, Nov. 3, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; election day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

. County Courthouse weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon; Monday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; election day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To register to vote or to update your address if you have moved, go to www.govotecolorado.com; or download an application from www.laplatacountyclerk.org and mail it back to 98 Everett St., suite C, Durango CO 81303; or register in person at the clerk's office or the county annex in Bayfield Town Hall.

The county clerk's office has a long list of documents voters can use as their identification to vote, including valid Colorado drivers license or ID card issued by the Colorado Department of Revenue; valid U.S. passport; valid federal, state or local government employee photo ID; FAA pilot's license; military or veteran's photo ID; Medicare or Medicaid card; student photo ID from a Colorado institution; and tribal member ID cards.
