Mancos Town Board to meet tonight

The Town of Mancos Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall. Board members are expected to discuss the economic development brochure first. Board members will also discuss a proclamation for National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.

Board members are also expected to approve an ordinance that will issue the Town's Water Revenue Bonds in the Aggregate Principal amount of $491,000, to pay the costs of water facility upgrades.

Board members are also expected to discuss the removal of potentially hazardous trees. The town's Tree Board, an advisory body that meets monthly, conducted a townwide survey that identified several hazardous trees that are in need of removal or heavy pruning. Four property owners are interested in participating in the 50/50 cost-share program.

Board members are also expected to discuss a $93,459 grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation, which will help make crossing U.S. 160 safer.

School board to meet at new location

The Mancos School Board of Education is expected to meeting on Monday, Oct. 27.

A work session is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m., and the regular meeting starts at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Mancos High School in Room 223. The board discussed moving locations last month because the meetings in the band room was proving problematic for students.

Open riding hours are extended

Open riding hours at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds' indoor arena have been extended until 9 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays till the end of the year.

Users must have a Horsemans card with the fairgrounds and are encouraged to call 565-1000 before arriving to confirm open riding hours.

Painted Turtle returning to Mancos

The Painted Turtle Studio is making a comeback in Mancos. The paint-your-own ceramics studio will reopen this week with a re-opening celebration Oct. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at a new location - 200 Grand Ave., across the street from Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters.

The event will include games, a coloring contest, raffle, baked goodies, cider and chai tea.
