Dave Hanel slides a panel out of the way for construction workers to cut the floor to put in water lines for the new Starbucks in City Market. The Starbucks is scheduled to open around the middle of November.

A curtain of plastic sheeting went up toward the south entrance of City Market last week, concealing a project that many local coffee lovers are excited to see finished.

“It will be here before you know it,” said City Market Manager Troy Cordell.

When the sheet of plastic is taken down, a Starbucks will be revealed, something that could happen by the second week of November, Cordell said.

“You can see progress being made now,” Cordell said. “But nothing is set in stone.”

The expected construction finish time will be around the second week of November, but Cordell did caution that time lines are difficult to follow when it comes to construction.

Currently, construction crews are working when the store is closed currently, because they are cutting into the floor to install electric and plumbing, something that is dusty and loud, Cordell said.

“We are trying to work to minimize the impact to (City Market) customers,” Cordell said.

But once the loud work in done, the Starbucks’ kiosks come on trucks and essentially just need to bolt in place.

Cordell couldn’t give specifics, but said that the Cortez Starbucks will be larger than most Starbucks that are inside grocery stores.

“It will be different and bigger than most stores inside other stores,” Cordell said.

Currently, City Market is hiring baristas to work at the new store. The employees that work at the new store will be employees of City Market, Cordell said.

“They don’t have to have experience, but they need to be friendly and dependable,” Cordell said.
