Think twice before voting for Gardner

Here’s a few tidbits that may cause you to think twice before voting for Cory Gardner:

A report prepared by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and other state agencies states that hydraulic fracturing in Colorado will increase from “4.5 billion gallons of water used in 2010 to more than 6 billion gallons of water in 2015.” That’s a huge increase — around 35 percent — when we already find ourselves short.

A writer for a pro-environment website reported, “At a town hall meeting in Berthoud last month (June 2014), the congressman (Cory Gardner) cited Colorado’s lean snowpack as the reason behind his latest push to build two new reservoirs, pump plants and pipelines tapping the Poudre River, also known as the Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP).”

“If we are going to have a long-term outlook for economic growth, we must have the water that is necessary to survive and grow,” Gardner reportedly said. “That’s not only to meet the needs of the population, that’s to meet the needs of agriculture and industry. That’s why I think we need to go forward with projects like NISP, and we need to go look for other new projects.” Now in which direction do the front range movers and shakers look when they are seeking more water? Why west, of course.

In 2008 Gardner wrote and promoted an amendment that would have taken $112 million from water projects that help the West Slope and diverted it to highway projects on the Front Range. Club 20 and an assortment of concerned folks fought and defeated this strange attempt. If you vote for Cory Gardner expect to see more proposals in the name of oil and gas development and the Front Range.
