Artist Lewis Williams created this poster as part of the Artist in Residence program at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.

For The Cortez Journal

On Sunday, Oct. 19, the public is invited to experience the artwork produced by two Canyons of the Ancients National Monument Artist-In-Residence winners at the Anasazi Heritage Center at 1 p.m.

Lewis Williams was selected in 2013 to share his talent and experience the joys of painting the beautiful landscapes of the monument. Last summer, he shared his point-of-view and works-in-progress during a presentation to visitors at the Anasazi Heritage Center. His work is now available in posters that he will sign following his remarks about his experiences as an Artist-In-Residents.

Following Williams' presentation, the latest 2014 Artist-In-Residence Amy Grogan will demonstrate block printing. As a resident artist of southwest Colorado for 23 years, Grogan is inspired by the magical and diverse landscape of the areas that result in beautiful and imaginative linoleum block prints and pastel paintings. She invites the public to talk with her during the informal and informative demonstration where she will showcase her artwork that features a sense of solitary stillness in landscape removed from what she refers to as "the chaos of humanity."
