Commissioners put feet in mouths

Liberty, justice, private property rights, individualism, rights guaranteed by the Constitution, freedom from government intervention and patriotism. These are all words expounded by our foot-in-mouth county commissioners. What about Bud Poe’s right to liberty and his private property rights? The commissioners were stab-in-the back quick about running to the state government for help to prevent Bud Poe from exercising his legal right to sell his property to whomever he wants: It is his private property.

When the commissioners turned over the transferable development rights resolution, they allowed for a few to sell or develop as they wished. Now they show the other side of their faces. Is that not what is referred to as two-faced? That is not leadership, that is corruption.

I heartily agree with Poe and his contribution to open space. I say contribution because what he is getting from Canyons of the Ancients is not nearly what he would garner from development. Ten years ago, as per my wife’s death bed wish, we gave our 360 acres to the Wildlife Land Trust for open space and to hopefully curtail its development and we also are bordered by Canyons of the Ancients.
