Focus on what next sheriff can do better

The recent story (Journal, Sept. 23) on the sheriff candidates took up a lot of space in the paper. Most of the content was opinions and accusations. Opinions, particularly from defense attorneys who lost the case, are fine but when a person is cleared of an issue and a misdemeanor dropped, don’t we have some faith in the judicial system?

These are items that are irrelevant and don’t hit on the real issues. Past articles indicate that we need to do some serious changes on how the county law enforcement system operates.

What we need are some positive things using up the same newspaper space on what candidates will do to restore respect and credibility to the department. They need to address, as a minimum:

1) what leadership skills will they bring that will move the Department in a positive direction?

2) What modifications will be made that can be measured during their term?

Give the voters some facts on visions and measurable actions that the next sheriff will focus on. Right now, if I could vote on “none of the above”, it would seem appropriate. Let’s put a positive spin on the issues, given the importance of this position.
