Maya Bonde spikes the ball in an earlier game this year. Mancos defeated Nucla Thursday night.

Like a boulder loosed on a mountain, the Mancos High School volleyball team just keeps rolling.

Playing at home against Nucla on Sept. 18, the Bluejays won again, defeating the Mustangs, 25-51, 15-25, 25-14, 27-25. With the win, Mancos improved its record to 6-1. Nucla dropped to 2-2 on the year.

Keying the Bluejays victory was outstanding hitting performance by Courtney Colyer, who led the Bluejays with 24 kills. Also contributing offensively was Taryn Gordanier, who registered 14 kills.

Defensively, no Mancos player was better than Jessica Willburn, who had a team-high 45 digs. Colyer added 20 digs and Jessica Gutierrez had 14.

Next up Mancos will be a home game against Ridgway on Sept. 19. The junior varsity game will begin at 4 p.m. and the varsity game will follow.
