Nixle alert system puts you 'in the know'

Hi folks. I'd like to take this opportunity to make sure all of our town residents and business owners are aware of the alert system that Mancos uses to push out information in emergencies or other important situations.

Mancos utilizes Nixle, which is a web-based community information service that allows us to communicate with you.

Nixle sends text alerts to your cell phone. You can also receive the alerts via email if you prefer. Another way to view the alerts is to go to the Nixle website, but the first 2 options are the most efficient and require less effort.

There are 4 classifications of alerts that you could receive (emergency, advisories, community info and traffic) but we don't want to overuse the system; if you receive an alert from the Town it will contain information that is right-now important to you.

Nixle is free, and registration is easy. To register, go to Nixle.com and click on the big orange "sign up free" button. You will be sent to another page and be asked to create a username and password, provide a cell phone number, your email address, etc. After clicking the "Accept" button you will be prompted to enter your home or business address, this tells Nixle to send you any alerts the Town issues.

An interesting function of the Nixle system is it lets you enter up to 5 locations anywhere in the country. For example, if you own property in another state and would like to receive alerts that could affect your property there, you can do so if Nixle is in use in that area.

I really encourage everyone to sign up for this free service. I think it's especially important in our area since we have limited (TV at least) media coverage.

When something's going on and you need to know, Nixle is an easy, efficient way to get that information quickly.

As always, thank you for your support and I'll talk to you again soon.
