Saturday, Aug. 30

12:58 a.m. A woman reported that her Toyota Tacoma was stolen after leaving it parked on Main Street in Cortez. She had dinner with a friend and later went to get the truck. A friend had gone to the car earlier and left the keys in it, the woman stated. The vehicle was later located at a bar in Cortez,the man driving the vehicle was arrested for stealing the truck and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sunday, August 31

12:19 a.m. a three-car crash occurred at the 400 block of W. 7th St. in which one car ended up in the lawn of the Montezuma-Cortez High School. The driver was injured, her eyes were bloodshot and she smelled of alcohol, according to the officer on scene. There were also several empty bottles of liquor on the floor of the vehicle. A witness said the woman was speeding and hit two parked cars. Marijuana was also found in the vehicle in addition to 10 empty peppermint schnapps bottles, six empty watermelon liquor bottles and two empty bottles of a liquor called Kinky. The woman was arrested for DUI and taken to the hospital to be observed before booked into the jail.

Tuesday, Sept. 2

9:45 p.m. an officer responded to a local tavern to a report of a stolen vehicle. A woman at the tavern reported that her vehicle, a Ford Ranger, disappeared after her boyfriend dropped it off at the tavern and left the keys in it for her to drive home.
