La Casita de Cortez opened up last week in a new location, one part-owner Dio Espinoza is hoping will mean more customers.

La Casita, which was formerly on North Harrison St. across the street from City Market, has a new home on 332 Main St.

The restaurant has spruced up the site, which has been the home to many restaurants in the past.

Espinoza was beaming Wednesday as customers walked through the door and settled down for an authentic Mexican treat.

“The chile rellenos are very popular here,” he said.

So far, Espinoza is thrilled with the new location.

“It has a great patio and lots of parking,” he said.

Also, the visibility is much better.

“We are right off Main Street,” he said.

Espinoza opened La Casita de Cortez about 2½years ago. He is from Jalisco, Mexico, but most recently moved to Cortez before opening the restaurant from Oregon, where he helped run a restaurant.

Espinoza is working on adding daily specials. The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For information, call (970) 565-0223.
