Recently there was a tragic car accident on U.S. Highway 160 and The Cortez Journal posted a photo of the accident on its Facebook page within an hour of the accident.
I understand that it is the Journal’s job to report the news but I ask in the future that you please wait at least 24 hours to post any photos so the family can be notified. I would prefer that the paper not post any photos, but I know that won’t happen.
Having family members see the photo online can be absolutely horrifying especially when bodies haven’t been removed from the vehicle and there is blood on the ground. I believe what the Journal did was in poor taste.
While your job is to educate the public, I ask that you have a heart and respect the community you serve when it comes to tragic events like this one.
